BANGALORE: MEG kept winning in the State senior basketball league championship posting its seventh straight win at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium courts here on Sunday. MEG beat Karnataka State Police 62-40 after leading 35-23 at half-time. KSP has thus finished its league engagements with six points from nine matches (three win and six loss). Sports Hostel, which has been figuring in some close ties, snatched another exciting 69-68 win over Beagles while Jayangar Sports Club beat SBI 38-27. The results: MEG 62 (Sweto Francis 10, Tinnu Joseph 12) bt KSP 40 (Mahesh 18); Sports Hostel 69 (Ranganna Gowda 26, Srinivasa Naik 14, Ajmal 13) bt Beagles 68 (Markesh 23, Arvind 10); JSC bt SBI 38-27.
Double for Prakash
Prakash Jolly and Ashwitha claimed a double each in the eighth to 10th standard boys' and girls' sections respectively in the KBA inter-school badminton championship here. Both the players won singles titles as well as doubles titles along with their respective partners. National player Arvind Bhat and former swimming ace Nisha Millet gave away the prizes. The results (all finals): Boys: Singles (5th to 7th std): S. Siddarth bt Shiv Nayak 21-14, 21-17; 8th to 10th std: Prakash Jolly bt Sonic Prabhu Desai 21-12, 21-17. Doubles: Prakash Jolly & Rahul Roshan bt Vinay Hari & Chirag 21-18, 24-22. Girls (5th to 7th std): Rashika bt Poorvisha 21-17, 21-13. Sangeetha & Esha Patel bt Rishika & Roshini 21-17, 21-18. 8th to 10th std: Ashwitha Ravi bt Ahana Vinay 21-11, 21-13. Doubles: Ashwitha & Divya bt Anusha & Divya 21-13, 21-19.
Six from State for World meet
Six players from Karnataka will represent India in the World under-8, 10, 14, 16 and 18 age-group chess championship to be held at Batumi, Georgia from Oct. 18 to 29. N. Sanjay, also of Karnataka, will be the chief coach of the team. The selected players: Arjun Bharath, M. Satvik (u-8), Girish A. Kaushik , M. Vigram, Aditi Jagdish, M. Priyadarshini (u-10).
Chess championship

Abhishek triumphs
R. Abhishek Jha, with a gross of 282 after four rounds, claimed the title in the open event of the M.P. Davis Gold Cup golf tournament at the BGC course here on Sunday. In the handicap section, R. Anish, with a nett of 137, emerged winner.
Seven-wkt. win
for MSRIT
Host M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT) defeated RNSIT by seven wickets in the M.S. Ramaiah memorial inter-engineering college cricket tournament here on Sunday. RNSIT scored 161 with Maharshi chipping in with a 61. However, the total proved inadequate as MSRIT won in 16.2 overs with Sandeep Murthy scoring a 47. The scores: RNSIT 161 in 25.5 overs (Maharshi 61) lost to MSRIT 162 for three in 16.2 overs (Sandeep Murthy 47).
Swimming meet
Karnataka Swimming Association will conduct Masters championship on Oct. 28 and 29 at corporation pool, Vijayanagar. The meet is open to both men and women. Eliya, Bhanu, Ritu win
Eliya Devan (under-10 singles), Bhanu (under-14) and S.P. Ritu (under-14 girls) emerged champions in the Kensri School Futures tennis tournament here. In the under-10 boys' singles final, Eliya defeated Narendra 6-3,7-6 (7-4), but he later went down in the under-14 singles final to Bhanu 6-1, 6-2. S.P. Ritu bagged the girls' under-14 singles title with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Liktha Shetty.
Inter-collegiate basketball
R.V. College of Engineering will conduct an inter-collegiate basketball tournament for men and women at the RVCE Indoor Stadium from Oct.26. Entries close on Oct.20. Further details may be had from H.N. Bhaskar (98451 90967) and Nikth Shetty (99451 23224).
