PROTEST RALLY: Delhi traders under the banner of the Confederation of All-India Traders participating in `Sealing Sangam Yatra' in Delhi on Sunday to protest against the sealing drive.
NEW DELHI: Traders on Sunday continued with their protest against the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's decision to resume sealing drive from November 1. Gathered under the banner of Confederation of All-India Traders (CAIT), they assembled at Ashok Vihar market in North-West Delhi and took out a protest march in the area. Pledging to resist any move to seal their shops and businesses, traders' during their "sealing sangam yatra" held small meetings at Wazirpur, Shalimar Bagh, Pitampura, Azadpur, Model Town and Derawal Nagar. The yatra culminated at GT Karnal Road. Asking the Centre to amend the Constitution to regularise all business establishments that existed as on December 31, 2005, traders said the court has failed to provide any relief to them so now the Government must do something concrete to resolve the matter. They also said they would not celebrate Diwali this year. "The sealing of business establishments is not the ultimate answer to the grave problem, rather strenuous efforts are required for phased and planned development keeping in mind the ground realities and need of the city. Status quo of business establishments as on December 31, 2005 is the only way out," said CAIT secretary general Praveen Khandelwal. The protest by traders would continue till the matter was fully resolved, he added.
