Bhopal:
The Madhya Pradesh Government on Sunday ordered a high-level probe into the leak of toxic gas from an unidentified source that had affected nearly 1,500 residents of six villages in Raisen district even as a magisterial probe was ordered into the incident. State Housing and Environment Department Principal Secretary P.D. Meena has been asked to conduct an in-depth probe into the gas leak that occurred in the Umraoganj area on Saturday night and submit a report in 30 days, official sources said here.
Mr. Meena would probe the nature of the gas, its source and action taken by the administration, health and police officials after the incident, the sources said, adding that death of a four-year-old boy, reportedly during the panic that spread in Mandua village, would also be investigated.
Raisen District Collector A.K. Bhatt has also ordered a magisterial inquiry. A team of the Pollution Control Board, Rapid Action Force and Central Reserve Police Force was trying to locate the source of leak, Mr. Bhatt said. PTI
