Children suffer Sir, I feel the ban on child labour is like many other laws difficult to implement. The ban may make many families who survive on children's earnings suffer and children will starve. Many parents are interested in educating children, but poverty and family problems have prevented them from doing so. What is required in the first place is to alleviate poverty. Counselling and family planning will help. B.S. Ganesh, Bangalore Raise ceiling Sir, The Centre from time to time revises the wage ceiling for coverage under ESI and also revises the ceiling for payment of bonus. But one area that has escaped the notice of the Government is revision in the ceiling for gratuity which still continues to be Rs. 3.5 lakh only. With the average wage of any employee with 25 to 30 years of experience at Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000, the ceiling of Rs. 3.5 lakh has become redundant. The authorities should look into it and raise the ceiling. V. Viswanathan, Bangalore Provide bus Sir, Many people walk up to Gangamma Circle daily around 8.30 a.m. to reach their work place at Peenya Industrial Area. Since there is no bus from Ramachandrapura towards Peenya, working people have to walk at least a kilometre to catch buses from Gangamma Circle towards Peenya. For the convenience of people of Ramachandrapura, BMTC could provide at least one bus from Ramachandrapura to Peenya Industrial Area 2nd Stage. Nagendra Sharma H.S., Bangalore Put up hoardings Sir, Lack of political will is the main reason why child labour has not been eradicated despite legislation. In fact, a puny and weak child, even if he/she crosses 14 years, cannot be made to do physical labour. In apartments and residential layouts, big hoardings can be erected to convey the message. G.
