Five arrested for vehicle thefts

NEW DELHI: Five persons, including a woman, have been arrested by the Adarsh Nagar police of North-West Delhi on charge of being involved in cases of vehicle thefts. At their instance, the police have recovered a Santro car, a Maruti van and a motorcycle, apart from some other stolen articles.

On October 5, the police arrested Anil Gupta after they recovered the engine of a stolen Maruti van from his possession. The vehicle had been stolen from Prashant Vihar.

During interrogation, he allegedly disclosed that he had bought the engine from a woman, Shanti, and her son Neetu, through his friend, Angad.

At his instance, the police arrested Neetu. She disclosed that her elder son Raju had stolen the Maruti van and had installed its engine in her vehicle with the help of Neetu and Angad.

Subsequently, this past Friday the police arrested Neetu, Angad and their accomplice, Rishikesh, from Rohini.

135 litres of illicit liquor recovered

NEW DELHI: A 36-year-old man has been arrested by the North-West Delhi on charges of running a unit manufacturing illicit country-made liquor at Alipur. The police claim to having recovered 135 litres of liquor, 1,110 litres of half-processed alcohol and other articles at his instance.

Acting on a tip-off that an illegal liquor-manufacturing unit was being run along the banks of the Yamuna, the police raided the place this past Friday and arrested one Amar Singh Goggi.

One held on charges of snatching

NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old man was arrested at Bhajanpura in North-East Delhi on Saturday on the charge of snatching. A stolen purse was recovered from his possession.

The accused, Mushtaq, was arrested by the area residents while he was trying to flee along with his accomplice Lallan, after snatching the purse of a young woman. Lallan managed to escape. At the instance of Mushtaq, the police have launched a hunt for Lallan and his other accomplices.

Nirankari Sant Samagam

NEW DELHI: Preparations for the 59th Annual Nirankari Sant Samagam began on Sunday with the formal inauguration of a voluntary service on its venue along Burari Road in North Delhi.

Baba Hardev Singh, the spiritual head of the Mission, inaugurated the ceremony. His mother Nirankari Rajmata Kulwant Kaur and his wife Mata Sawinder were also present on the occasion. Baba Hardev Singh blessed those offering voluntary service in the preparations for the upcoming function.
