Kochi: The Thrissur-based South Indian Bank (SIB) has announced three-time Bharat Award winner Mammootty as its global brand ambassador, banking on the film star's `pan India appeal, clean image and popularity among the NRI community,' SIB Chairman and Managing Director V.A. Joseph said here on Monday. "We are very much excited about his collaboration," said Dr. Joseph. He said Mammootty was recently elected the most popular matinee idol. The NRI community, especially in the Gulf region, formed a significant chunk of SIB's customer base. The bank will use the actor's popularity among NRIs to help reinforce SIB's global image, Dr. Joseph added. Mammootty said his new role had brought about new responsibilities. He described SIB as a fast-growing bank and called on it to help out banks that were small and in some trouble within the State. This, he said, would be in keeping with the emerging image of the bank. The Chairman of the Bank said a committee was at work to identify smaller banks for acquisition in the future. Action would unfold only after the committee filed its report, he added.
