I don't take Modi's comments seriously: Speed

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR : ICC Chief Executive Malcolm Speed lashed out at the comments made by the Board vice-president Lalit Modi regarding International cricket Council behaving like East India Company in the matter of the Members' Participation Agreement (MPA) which India has refused to sign.

"Yesterday when I walked into the hospitality section of the ground, I was greeted by Tiger Pataudi and he said,

"Let me be the first one to welcome the East India Company back to India.' And we had a good laugh about it," said Speed in response to the remarks by Modi. "I have seen Mr Modi's comments and don't intend to respond in detail to all those comments. "

Speed remarked that he did not give much credence to Modi's statements. "Mr Modi has made a lot of comments and I don't take them all too seriously. I am more interested in facts than in opinions and what Mr Modi has done in his articles is expressed opinions — strident opinions about the ICC, what is wrong with the ICC and how the ICC needs an Afro Asian CEO. We see those opinions, we note them and take them into account."
