HYDERABAD: Three more persons succumbed to dengue in the State on Monday, one each from Srikakulam, Prakasam and Guntur districts, taking the toll to eight so far. This is the second fatality reported from Srikakulam. The number of suspected cases has gone up to 102 of which 55 are confirmed. The highest number of 12 confirmed cases were reported in Guntur district followed by ten in the State capital. Officials manning the control room in the Health Directorate, however, said things were under control. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday asked Cooperation Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana to cancel his trip to Mumbai and instead rush to Guntur to oversee steps to prevent incidence of dengue.
Local teams
Directing special medical teams to be rushed to Guntur, he asked for effective deployment of local teams to control it and spread of public awareness. An official release said Dr. Reddy took the decision to depute Mr. Lakshminarayana, who is in-charge Minister for Guntur, after a review following detection of several positive cases. The Chief Minister said if required those affected could be treated at private hospitals with the Government footing the bill. Serious cases should be sent to the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), he said, also asking for a sanitation drive and anti-larval fogging in the district.
