KOCHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the SSLC question paper leak case on Sunday seized Rs.2 lakh from the house of Deputy Director of Education in Ernakulam district and former secretary of Pareeksha Bhavan V. Sanu, one of the accused in the case. The cash was concealed under a washing machine at his Vazhakkala residence. The CBI claimed that Mr. Sanu had admitted that he received a bribe of Rs.2.80 lakh from Rajan Chacko, the first accused in the case who was given the contract to print the SSLC question papers during 2002-05. The CBI arrested Mr. Sanu last week. Two others arrested last week, S. Ravindran, former secretary, Pareeksha Bhavan, and C. P. Vijayan Nair, former superintendent, Pareeksha Bhavan, too had admitted that they received bribes from Rajan Chacko. Mr. Ravindran received Rs.15 lakh while Mr. Vijayan got Rs. 50,000, the CBI said. The CBI is investigating the SSLC question paper leak, and the illicit contract awarded to Rajan Chacko, which had caused a loss of Rs.1.19 crore to the Government. The CBI said the question papers of nine subjects in the March 2005 SSLC examination had been leaked. The three Education Department officials allegedly connived in awarding the contract for printing the question paper by ignoring other tenders that quoted lower prices.
