BELLARY: Two women were killed and a man was injured in an attack by a five-member gang armed with lethal weapons at Satyanarayan Pet on Monday, according to the police. The police said the gang led by one Subash went to the residence of Gavisiddappa, a moneylender, around 1.30 p.m. After some time, Gavisiddappa's neighbours heard the cry for help by Nagesh, son of Gavisiddappa, and started gathering in front of the house. By then, the gang had fled the scene. According to a complaint filed by Nagesh, who managed to escape, Subash along with four others came to his house to take back the jewellery he had pledged with Gavisiddappa. An argument broke out and the gang assaulted Gavisiddappa with a chopper. His wife, Lakshmidevamma (68), and Lakshmi, daughter-in-law, who rushed to the rescue of Gavisiddappa were also attacked. Lakshmi and Lakshmidevamma succumbed to injuries at hospital. Gavisiddappa's condition was said to be serious, the police said.
