CHENNAI: Deepavali is a few days away, and sweet shops in the city are gearing up for the festive season.
The highlight at Sri Krishna Sweets this year is the `Mysorepa gift cheque', which was launched this Monday. "Invariably, there is a surplus of sweets at everyone's home during Diwali. Our gift coupons will be available for different quantities of sweets. So someone who wishes to gift sweets could gift coupons instead," says Managing Director M. Murali. The gift cheques bear a one-month validity period and can be used at any of their 14 city outlets and even in those outside Chennai. Different combinations of sweets and savouries have been packaged as `Diwali Packs 1 to 6' at Suswaad Sweets and Savouries. Depending on the quantity purchased, an extra box of sweets would be given as a compliment. "We get individual and bulk orders. Many buy our package that comes with the Deepavali `legiyam'," the Managing Director, K. Ramesh, said. At Shree Mittai, the focus is on supplying sugar-free sweets. Managing Director Mukesh Patel says a lot of care goes into packing the sweets in fancy gift boxes. Gangothri is focussing on supplying different varieties of cashew sweets.
