`Communal Amity Week' from November 19

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike is planning to hold "Communal Amity Week" from November 19 throughout the State, which will culminate in a rally in Bangalore on November 26.

Mobilise people

Vedike member H.V. Vasu told presspersons here on Monday that the programme was part of an effort to mobilise people against the "communally-vitiated atmosphere in the State" in the light of the riots in Mangalore and developments in Bababudangiri in Chikmagalur district.

Members of the vedike, along with people from other parts of India, would be conducting a fact-finding investigation in Mangalore on November 18 and 19, he added Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition responsible for the communal riots in Mangalore, Gauri Lankesh said Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister Nagaraj Shetty should be removed from the Ministry. Even Vasant Bangera, President of the district unit of Janata Dal (S), had held Mr. Shetty responsible for the riots, she added.

Riots

Syed Saifulla said that the riots in Mangalore were not an indicator of animosity between Hindus and Muslims in the region, but an effort by the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies to hit at the minority community.

Research work

Speaking about the Bababudangiri issue, Kalkuli Vittal Hegde said that the documents the BJP was using to claim that the Sufi shrine belonged exclusively to the Hindus was "completely concocted".

A research work brought by the vedike, "Benkiyaagalollada Belaku", showed that the place had a syncretic tradition dating back to several centuries, he added.
