Neglecting history

Kappad, the beach where the Portuguese sailor landed 508 years ago, is now a picture of neglect. Recently, the sea ate off a part of the land near the Vasco da Gama stupa . Local people allege that cracks have developed on the sea wall. They are demanding the construction of a strong sea wall. This place of historic importance is not getting its due. Many projects, which promised a face-lift, failed to take off. Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had also promised the development of the spot.
