Music festival begins tomorrow

KOZHIKODE: Sri Sathguru Sangeetha Sabha will celebrate Chembai Sangeethotsavam to coincide with its 40th anniversary from October 19 to 22 at Padmasree Kalyana Mandapam.

Tribute to legends

The programme will showcase Carnatic music concerts by leading musicians. The festival will be a tribute to legends in Carnatic music. The opening day is devoted Saint Tyagaraja, the second day to Syamasastry, the penultimate day to Muthuswami Dikshithar and the concluding day to Swathi Tirunal.

After District Collector A. Jayathilak inaugurates the programme on Thursday morning, the festival will get under way with a Carnatic vocal concert by Malladi brothers, accompanied by Mysore Srikanth on the violin and Bangalore Arjunkumar on the mridangam.

The second day will feature Carnatic vocal concerts by Kumari Sukanya Narayanan at 5 p.m. It will be followed later in the evening by a vocal concert by Sreyas Narayanan, supported by Mysore Srikanth on the violin and Kuzhalmannam G. Ramakrishnan on the mridangam. A vocal concert by Pantula Rama, accompanied by M.S.N. Moorthy on the violin, V.V. Ramana Moorthy on the mridangam and S.V.S.N. Viswanthan on the ghatam will be the main event on the third day.

Swathi Tirunal

The final day of the music festival is devoted to Swathi Tirunal. A Carnatic music festival by K.B. Jaya Kumar and party and another concert by Sreevalsan J. Menon, with T.H. Subramaniam on the violin and Patri Sathish Kumar on the mridangam, will bring the curtain down on the festival. Puthukode S. Krishnan, senior mridanga vidwan, will be honoured at the valedictory function.
