Bihar is improving: Speaker

Staff Reporter

"No one involved in corruption cases being spared"

MADURAI: Speaker of the Bihar Assembly, Uday Narain Choudhary, has claimed that the corruption level is gradually coming down in Bihar and the law and order situation was also improving under the Nitish Kumar Government.

He said that Bihar was undergoing decriminalisation of politics and no one involved in corruption cases was being spared.

Talking to reporters here recently during his visit to the Gandhi Museum here, Mr.Choudhary said that the Chief Minister had told officials and ruling party MLAs strictly not to be corrupt and steps were taken to control corruption both in politics and bureaucracy.

"The District Magistrate of Madhepura was arrested on Sunday on corruption charges. So, persons at the higher level get punished now and that itself is an improvement," the Speaker said when asked about the public perception that officials and politicians get away even though they were involved in corruption.

He said that there was no longer scope for violence and corruption in Bihar "and Mr.Nitish Kumar is taking some unimaginable steps in the interest of people."

The Speaker lauded the role played by Election Observer, K.J.Rao, who monitored the last elections in Bihar and made smooth conduct of polls possible.

He said that Bihar was able to implement the Rule of Law and "criminals are gradually being removed from the scene and started leaving the State."

Mr.Choudhary, who was in Madurai to attend a seminar on non-violence and peace, said that the Bihar Government had formed a special Commission to look into land reforms and make recommendations.
