KOLKATA: Sitar maestro Ravi Shankar is suffering from pneumonia and has been admitted to a nursing home in San Diego, California. His condition is improving and should be released soon, his associate in the city, Robin Paul, told The Hindu here on Tuesday.

The 86-year-old sitarist had been admitted to the nursing home about a week ago, Mr. Paul said.

Following this, some of the concerts Pandit Ravi Shankar was to participate in have been cancelled while others re-scheduled.

His proposed visit to the country in December is also uncertain now as he has been advised to take total rest, Mr. Paul said.
