The Railway Minister, Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri, declared in Ernakulam on October 17 that the performance of the Indian Railway was steadily improving and that their endeavours towards further improvement would continue. He made these observations while inaugurating the Ernakulam South-Kottayam section of the Ernakulam-Quilon railway link at the Ernakulam South station. Great jubilation prevailed in the area at the inauguration of this link, for which people have been agitating for a long time. The first section has been completed at a cost of Rs. 2.4 crores and the entire Ernakulam-Quilon section is expected to be completed by October next.
