Puducherry: Pattali Makkal Katchi Parliamentary Party leader M. Ramadoss has called upon Chief Minister N. Rangasamy to drop its proposal to establish a satellite town project on 900-acre farm lands here. In a release on Monday, Mr. Ramadoss said that the Chief Minister should not forget the clear stand of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC leader Sonia Gandhi that no project replacing fertile lands and displacing the farmers and farm labourers should be executed. The Congress Government here should follow its high command's policy in letter and spirit. Mr. Ramadoss said already cultivable area had come down from 48,581 hectares to 24,000 hectares here. Around 50 per cent of such lands had been converted into residential plots or industrial zones. Industrial entrepreneurs setting up factories from other States were acquiring lands more than needed. Mr. Ramadoss said that Government was struggling to get B II status for Puducherry region, which continued to be a C class city. Hence a satellite town project for such a town was uncalled for. Mr. Ramadoss said that it was because of the intervention by PMK founder S. Ramadoss, the Tamil Nadu Government had abandoned the satellite town project.
