Mizoram to take on Sikkim

CHENNAI: Except West Bengal, all other teams have landed for the final round of the Mir Iqbal Hussain trophy National sub-junior football championship, which gets underway at the Nehru Stadium on Wednesday.

Holder Mizoram and Sikkim will set the ball rolling in the event, which returns to the State after a short gap.

As part of the drive by the AIFF to weed out overage players, two players are being randomly picked from each team for a medical examination.

Match commissioner Antony John D'Costa did an inspection of the players of each team before picking two players who appeared to him as `doubtful'.

Group A comprises Mizoram, Chandigarh, Sikkim, Karnataka and Group B consists of West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The top two teams from each group will clash in the semifinals, which will be held on Oct. 25 and 26. The final is slated for Oct. 28. — Special Correspondent
