Anamica bags a golden double

Madurai: B. Anamica of Lady Doak College, Madurai, cornered glory on the second day, by winning a golden double and that too by setting new meet records in the women's shot put and discus events, in the three-day Madurai Kamaraj University athletic meet here on Tuesday.

In shot put, she managed a distance of 12.19 m. to better her own old record of 11.48 m. In discus, she had a throw of 38.04 m. to break the old record of 35.09 m. set by K. Sathya Priya of MSSWB College, who finished second with 33.76 m.

Anamica also qualified in discus throw for the all-India inter-university Athletic meet by crossing the qualifying mark of 35.71 m.

In men's 4x400m relay, MSS Wakf Board College and Yadava College, Madurai which finished first and second shattered the existing meet record of 3:34.42 s.

VOC College triumphs

Host VOC College, Tuticorin, beat Adithanar College, Tiruchendur, 3-0 in the final of the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University inter-collegiate tennis tournament at Tuticorin on Tuesday.

The results (final): VOC College (Tuticorin) bt Adithanar College (Tiruchendur) 3-0 (Sivakumar bt Kartheesh 8-3; Prakash bt Kirubakaran 8-1; Sivakumar/ Prakash bt Kartheesh/ Kirubakaran 8-1).

Third place: Scott Christian College (Nagercoil) bt Dr Sivanthi Adithanar College of Physical Education (Tiruchendur) 3-2 (Justin bt Rex 8-0; Antony lost to Balaji 7-8; Justin/ Antony bt Balaji/ Rex 8-7; Justin lost to Balaji 1-8; Antony bt Rex 8-0).
