NEW DELHI: The Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Tuesday confirmed that 103 persons died of dengue across the country, with the maximum number of 30 deaths reported here. The number of confirmed cases had gone up to 5,710. Of these, Delhi had the highest 1,637 patients. There was an increase of 292 cases and five deaths in the last 24 hours. The increase was reported from Punjab (117), Delhi (89), Haryana (47) and Uttar Pradesh (39). According to figures provided by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, 22 people died of dengue in Maharashtra, 12 in Uttar Pradesh, 10 in Rajasthan, four each in Kerala, Punjab and West Bengal, three in Gujarat and one each in Tamil Nadu and Haryana. The number of patients undergoing treatment was 697 in Rajasthan, 457 in Uttar Pradesh, 429 in West Bengal, 794 in Kerala and 443 in Gujarat. Chikungunya cases were also on the rise. While the number of suspected cases in the capital was 228, 26 were confirmed. While the Government claimed that there were no chinkungunya deaths, the number of suspected cases was 1.35 million and the affected districts 182.
