KOLLAM: A South India-level two-day robotics workshop concluded at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham on the Amritapuri campus, near here, on Tuesday. The event was part of the first anniversary celebrations of the Association of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the institution. As many as 184 students from nearly 40 engineering colleges across South India participated. The students were divided into groups of four and at the end of the workshop, each group assembled a winded or curved line tracking wheeled robot. More advanced versions of such robots are used in the industry today. A robotics kit and participant certificate was given to each participant. The kit contained electronic components, wires, soldering iron, geared motors, wheels and sensors. For most students, it was a first time experience in building anything close to a robot by themselves. Students from mechanical, electronics, computer science and IT branches attended the workshop. The objective of the workshop was to create awareness among students about robotics development and give them practical experience and confidence to build things on their own.
