COIMBATORE: The bonus issue is unlikely to trigger any strike in mills at Coimbatore and Erode districts this year, K.G. Jaganathan, secretary of the Joint Action Council of the Coimbatore and Erode District Textile Mill Workers' Unions, has said. His statement comes in the context of bonus talks in engineering and textile units here coming to a peaceful end. In most of the 1,000 mills in the two districts, settlements have been signed and disbursement is on. Negotiations are in progress in about five per cent of the units. These will conclude in a day or two, says Mr. Jaganathan. The minimum bonus given by mills this year is 10 per cent and the maximum, 26 per cent. With regard to engineering units, Coimbatore District General Engineering and Mechanical Workers' Union (CITU) president V. Perumal says they have agreed either to a higher bonus or the same amount as last year's. The industries are doing well this year and there is no problem. The engineering units include foundries, textile machinery manufacturers, agricultural equipment making industries and pumpset units.
