17 dengue cases in Khammam

285 afflicted with viral fevers

KHAMMAM: In all 17 dengue positive cases and 285 cases of viral fever have been reported in different public hospitals and primary health centres in the district. Viral fevers claimed the lives of two persons, including a girl, in the district.

Four-year-old Anjali, who had been down with fever for over a week, died on Monday in the SC colony at Kuppenakuntla village of Penuballi mandal. The girl had been taken to Tiruvur in Krishna district for treatment but to no avail. Twenty-five persons from the same colony were undergoing treatment for viral fevers.

At Enkoor village M. Govinda Rao, 45, died. He had undergone treatment in the primary health centre. His condition worsened on Sunday night. The officials however said that only one dengue-related death had been reported in the district so far.

Health camps

NGOs and political parties organised health camps giving free health checkup and medicines in Khammam town.

Municipal councillors organised cleanup drive in their wards. Massive rallies by schoolchildren and nursing students helped in creating awareness among the public.
