Staff Reporter

Police arrest and remove protestors from PWD office

VIOLENT TURN: The Police stopping Youth Congress activists who try to barge into the PWD office in Kannur on Tuesday.

KANNUR: The march by the Youth Congress activists to the Public Works Department (PWD) office here on Tuesday demanding the urgent repair of badly damaged roads in the district turned violent.

The Youth Congress activists, led by district Youth Congress president Sajiv Joseph, barged into the office of the PWD executive engineer at noon.

When the staff in the office said that the executive engineer was not in the office, the protestors tried to vandalise the office files.

When the police made an attempt to arrest the agitated protestors inside the office, the protestors standing outside moved in to prevent the police personnel. When the attempt to forcibly arrest the protestors was foiled, the police used canes to disperse them. Later the police arrested and removed the protestors from the office.
