Misuse of land in industrial estates to be checked

Special Correspondent

Action to be taken after Statewide survey of all industrial estates, says Minister

  • Meeting of heads of cement industries to be held in Bangalore
  • Approval given for four new cement factories in Bagalkot

GULBARGA: Minister for Major and Medium Industries Katta Subramanya Naidu on Tuesday said the Government will take back lands allotted in industrial estates if allottees misuse the lands.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Naidu said several complaints had been received on misuse of industrial lands by the allottees.

    Bangalore scenario

In Bangalore, already orders had been issued to take back 400 acres of industrial land which has been used for other purposes by allottees and 95 per cent of such allottees had filed cases in different courts against the order.

Meanwhile, he said the Government has ordered a Statewide survey of all the industrial estates to identify specific cases of misuse of industrial lands by allottees and report back to the Government within a month for initiating action against them.

The Minister said he had convened a meeting of captains of cement companies in the country on October 26 in Bangalore to explore avenues for investment in Gulbarga district. He came out strongly against those who opposed the establishment of cement units citing damage to environment.

He said without industrialisation, no State could expect economic prosperity and unemployment problem would worsen. Gulbarga district was endowed with large deposits of limestone and this should be exploited to establish cement units, which would provide employment to local people, he said Mr. Naidu said the neighbouring States such as Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh were marching ahead in the industrial front. Karnataka should not lag behind and the people should cooperate with the endeavours of the Government, he said.

    Expansion plan

To a question, Mr. Naidu said the Government had given its clearance for expansion proposals of the Vasavadutta Cement Factory and ACC Factory in Gulbarga district. It had also given approval to start four new cement factories in Bagalkot.

The Minister said he had convened a meeting of senior officials of the department to explore ways to reopen the H M Potdar Cement Factory at Shahabad in Gulbarga district which was closed for the past six years.
