GULBARGA: Minister for Major and Medium Industries Katta Subramanya Naidu was on Tuesday flooded with complaints of lack of basic facilities in industrial areas during his visit to the industrial estate in Kapnur on the outskirts of the city.

The Minister accompanied by senior officials of the department and Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik, Rajya Sabha MP K.B. Shanappa and Shashil G. Namoshi, MLC, gave a patient hearing to the industrialists who said that owing to lack of proper roads, drinking water supply and other basic facilities, many industries could not function smoothly.

Mr. Naidu told the industrialists that the State Government had earmarked Rs. 500 crore in the new industrial policy for infrastructure development in industrial estates in the State. Every year, Rs. 100 crore would be spent on improving infrastructure provided the industrialists agreed to chip in 10 per cent of the total estimated cost for the improvement of infrastructure.

During his visit to the industrial area being developed on 600 acres of land on Nandur-Kesaratgi Road on the outskirts of the city, the accompanying officials informed the Minister that 120 acres of the available land had been given to the Indian Oil Corporation and the Hindustan Petroleum for establishing their filling plants and another 20 acres had been allotted to other industrialists.

The entrepreneurs who had applied for land in the Nandur Industrial Area appealed to the Minister to reduce the cost proposed by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) from Rs. 2.5 lakh per acre to 1.75 lakh per acre.

They promised to pay the development charges if the land cost was reduced. The Minister, who consulted the accompanying officials, informed the industrialists that the proposal to reduce land cost would be placed in the next board meeting of the KIADB and a final decision would be taken.

At present, more than 600 applications seeking allotment of land in the Nandur Industrial Area was pending with the department.
