500 houses for tsunami victims

KOLLAM: World Vision-India has completed the construction of 500 houses for the tsunami victims of Kollam and Alappuzha districts. Another 156 houses are under construction. The completed houses will be handed over to the beneficiaries at a function to be held at Cheriyazheekkal on October 18.

The keys of the houses will be handed over to the beneficiaries by Chief Executive Officer of World Vision-Australia Tim Costello. The function will be addressed by P. Rajendran, MP; Kollam District Collector B. Srinivas, group executive of World Vision-India L.R. Joshi, and Alapad grama panchayat president G. Rajadas.

World Vision-India had embarked upon a Rs.40-crore project for the rehabilitation of tsunami victims in India. Under the project, in Alapad and Arattupuzha, primary health centres, angawadis, community halls, public toilets, tube wells and youth clubs were constructed.
