Two treatment plants for Dal lake
The two plants, one each at Habak and Hazratbal, were commissioned to plug the flow of contaminated water into lake, Forest Minister Qazi Mohammad Afzal said. One more plant will be commissioned at Brene Nishat shortly, he added. Two more plants at Brari Nambal and Nallah Ambir Khan were also being set up around the lake for the purpose of conserving the water body, he said at the 16th Board of Directors Meeting of Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) here.
Chandigarh not to ban use of polythene
It was decided to use polythene carry bags and other plastic waste that could be recycled and converted into useful items for making ropes, sanitary pipes, an official spokesman said. He said it was brought to the administration's notice that a large number of goods like milk, clothes and other grocery items dal, atta also came in pre-packed bags which were not made of polythene but were not technically carry bags and the ban would only take care of small volume of waste of polythene. The Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh has also set up `Sahaj Safai Kendras' for segregation of all bio-degradable and non- biodegradable waste.
Woman alleges rape by brother-in-law
A resident of Mandh lodged a complaint with police that she was allegedly repeatedly raped by her brother-in-law as her husband Gurbachan Singh was living in Dubai. She said she had married Singh seven years ago and had two children. She became pregnant after her younger brother-in-law Gurpreet allegedly raped her. The woman also alleged that she was forced to bring more dowry by her mother in-law Dalbir Kaur and Gurpreet. Police have registered a case against Gurpreet and Dalbir Kaur, but no arrest has been made so far.
Rs. 879 crores disbursed to farmers
He disclosed that the State Government had arranged a cash credit limit of Rs.1,000 crores so that the farmers could be paid for their paddy within 48 to 72 hours.
