Staff Correspondent
Madikeri: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is taking steps to modernise its fleet and services to provide comfort to commuters, Bhaskar Rao, Director (Vigilance and Security) of the corporation, has said. He was interacting with presspersons at a `meet-the-press' programme organised by the Press Club here on Tuesday. Introduction of "avatar" service to make advance ticket booking online; sleeper coach from Bangalore to Mangalore; increasing the bus length from 10 m. to over 12 m.; and cutting down the staff strength would be focused upon, Mr. Rao said. The introduction of electronic ticketing machines (ETM) in the buses had reduced pilferage to a great extent. It was based on international technology and some more services could be added to it later. The corporation was well on its way to making progress. The target for 2006-07 was set at Rs. 35 crore, he said. The proposed Inter-Modal Transport System would usher in a revolution, he said.
