NALGONDA: State secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) K.Narayana has asked the Election Commission not to allow the Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader K.Chandrasekhar Rao to contest the Karimnagar Parliamentary bypoll. Speaking to reporters at the CPI district headquarters here on Tuesday, he said: "Is it (seeking re-election) fun? It is a very costly game. Those who want re-election on the same party ticket be barred from contesting." Observing that leaders should not take people's sentiments for a ride, Mr.Narayana said that the EC must take serious note of the suggestion. Earlier, he took part in the office bearers' meeting of the party's frontal organisations. Taking serious exception to the allotment of fertile lands for the Special Economic Zones (SEZs), the CPI leader observed that it would lead to a crisis in the rural areas. He demanded that the Government appoint a sitting judge to look into the allegations on the land scams involved in the Outer Ring Road project. He criticised the State Cabinet's reported decision to take on the former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee for making comments against the State Government in a case pertaining to remission given to the Congress leader Gouru Venkat Reddy. "The Cabinet should forthwith withdraw the resolution it reportedly passed against Mr.Sorabjee. Instead of taking his comments in the right spirit, the Cabinet is trying to throttle his voice," he said. Mr.Narayana advised the Government to work for a permanent solution to the Telangana issue. "First you appoint an expert committee involving prominent personalities from all walks of life and initiate political discussion," he maintained adding that another university be opened for North Telangana region. The party State executive committee meeting slated for October 19 and 20 would chalk out a plan to launch "direct fight" against the Government in protest against the delay in constituting regional development councils.
