TDP dubs review meets `poll stunt'

Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: The Telugu Desam Party has criticised district-wise review meetings being held by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy by terming the exercise as `election stunt'. The reviews were launched in Telangana area with an eye on Karimnagar Lok Sabha byelection, party spokesman S. Venugopalachary said.

He told reporters here on Tuesday that the reviews served no purpose because no transparency was visible in the exercise.

He said barring mediamen from the review meetings also affected the independence of the press.

The TDP spokesman even linked the developments in irrigation sector to Karimnagar byelection.

On the assurance of the Chief Minister to irrigate 10 lakh acres in near future, he questioned, "Why did the Chief Minister remember irrigation development now?"

Demanding resignation of the Chief Minister, Mr. Venugopalachary said the adverse comments of Supreme Court against the Government in a number of cases should have drilled sense into Congressmen, especially the Chief Minister.

Telugu Mahila State general secretary Ch. Suhasini Reddy, State secretary G. Sujata and district publicity secretary B. Goverdhan Reddy were also present.
