Eye-opener for Exnora
For Exnora International, which works for a clean city, the visit to the State resource-cum-training centre for persons with disabilities in K.K. Nagar was an "eye-opener." The NGO had organised a tree planting programme at the centre, which is situated behind the K.K. Nagar peripheral hospital, but was not prepared for the sight that greeted it outside the centre.
The hospital's backyard had turned into a dumping ground for slum dwellers residing in the numerous huts across the tiny road leading to the training centre. The function, however, progressed without a hitch. The members, later, said that they were planning on cleaning the place immediately.
A few saplings were planted at the training centre by a handful of disabled children. Exnora members said 25 saplings would be planted at the centre. Those wishing to plant saplings can contact M. Chandran, District Disabled Rehabilitation Officer of Chennai. Exnora plans to plant 500 saplings as part of its `evergreen ability activity'. Sri Krishna Sweets will provide the tree guards for the saplings.
