MYSORE: A tourist from France was allegedly assaulted by a group of miscreants at Chamundi Hills on Tuesday and robbed of his cash and credit card. But, within minutes of the attack, six of the seven suspected assailants were arrested by police personnel with the help of locals. The tourist's belongings were also restored within half-an-hour. City Police Commissioner Pravin Sood told The Hindu that the Thiakime, 38, had taken a bus to Chamundi Hills early on Tuesday morning. He chose to walk down hill while returning. "Barely, had he descended about 40 steps from the Nandi statue when a group of seven miscreants attacked him, took away Rs. 5,000 and his credit card," Mr. Sood said. Thiakime raised an alarm, which attracted the attention of vendors and shopkeepers near Nandi statue. The police was summoned from the foot of Chamundi Hills. One offender is reportedly at large. The tourist was rushed to K.R. Hospital, where was treated for a wound on the head. Mr. Sood acknowledged the assistance of the local vendors. "We have to verify their antecedents of the accused," he said. The arrested include Mahesh, Kumara, Chandra, Krishna, Chandru and Rajkumar. The Krishnaraja Police Station in Mysore has registered a case and investigation is under way.
