Wealth case against ex-MLA
|
CHENNAI:
Nearly a decade after it was registered, a disproportionate wealth case against a former AIADMK MLA has reached the stage of examination of defence witnesses before a Special Court here.
The court has fixed the next hearing for October 26.
It was in 1997 that the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption registered the case against V. Panneerselvam. The charge sheet, for offences under Sections 13 (2) and 13 (1) (e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and 109 (abetment) of the IPC, was submitted before the Special Court set up by the previous DMK government at the Chennai Collectorate complex to try corruption cases against former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and her Cabinet colleagues, in 2003.
Two others accused
Besides Mr. Panneerselvam, two others, Janakiammal and Dhanabaghyam, were cited as accused.
