CHENNAI:
A massive sapling planting campaign, launched by Project Green Hands on behalf of the Isha Foundation on Sunday, ended on Tuesday with the planting of 8.13 lakh trees in the State.
Foundation founder Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, who participated in the valedictory function here on Tuesday said the foundation had plans to plant 25 lakh saplings in 2007, in commemoration of the silver jubilee of the foundation.
He said it was possible to increase the tree and forest cover in the State by 30 per cent if every individual took tree planting as a mission.
The massive exercise, undertaken by volunteers of the foundation would be a record, which he hoped would be replicated throughout the world.
Union Minister of State for Statistics G.K. Vasan presiding over the valedictory function promised the Centre's assistance for the foundation's massive tree plantation programme sponsored by Project Green Hands.
The Sadhguru on the occasion released two CDs on importance of tree planting.
