Seven held, pirated CDs seized

CHENNAI
: The anti-video piracy wing of the police arrested seven persons and seized pirated compact discs which were valued at around Rs. 10 lakh in the market here on Tuesday.
According to Additional Director General of Police Narinder Pal Singh, IGP Lakshmi Prasad and SP D Manivel had ordered searches in Chennai city and peripheries.
Special teams
Consequently, special teams led by DSP I Jagatheeswaran and Inspectors Udayakumar and Thangadurai conducted raids in various pockets of the city and seized over 6,500 compact discs including those on Tamil movies such as "Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu", "Em Magan", "Perarasu" as well as"Thimiru". Of the seven persons arrested, Babu (37) is belonging to Red Hills and Sheik Mohammed (50) to Madhavaram.
The remaining five accused are from Ramanathapuram and Madurai districts: Nagaraj (25), Nazeer (31), Socrates (27), Allaudeen (28) and Narayanan (28).
Cases under Copyright Act have been registered and they were remanded to custody, a police press note said.
