Hyderabad: Is natural dyeing staging a come back? The answer is yes. Environment conscious customers are plumping for the natural products. Hyderabad is going to witness some serious discussion on the traditional art of dyeing which has almost ceased to exist. More than 300 delegates from across the world will arrive here next month to take stock of the damage caused to environment by chemical dyes, the destruction of plant life and pollution of soil and resources. They will discuss threadbare the current knowledge and practices of dyeing in traditional and contemporary textiles at an international symposium being held here from November 5 to 12. The Crafts Council of India and Andhra Pradesh Tourism are jointly sponsoring the workshop on natural dyes at Shilpakalavedika. The UNESCO has taken the initiative to organise the workshop in Hyderabad. Delegates from UK, Pakistan, Bangladsh, South Africa, Sweden, America are expected to take part in the symposium. Besides 400 delegates from different parts of India will also be sharing their experiences. Among other things the workshop will discuss the economic development and marketing of natural dyes, sustainability and eco friendliness of natural dyes. The delegates will also visit the Ikat weaving centre at Pochampally and the vegetable dyeing cum block printing centre at Machilipatnam. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism is also organising another international conference - Look South - in May 2007 in association with FICCI.
