VIJAYAWADA: The district administration is fully geared to deal with cases of dengue fever. No cases of dengue fever have been reported at the Government General Hospital for treatment till date, according to its superintendent M. Ashok Babu. Dr. Babu said rapid test kits for the quick diagnosis of dengue fever had been kept ready with the Microbiology Department. Resident Medical Officer T. Anjeneyulu said a separate ward with six beds had been created for the treatment of dengue cases. Blood samples of all fever cases were being screened by the Microbiology Department for dengue and were being subsequently sent to Hyderabad for confirmation. Blood platelet counting was also being done for the blood sample of every patient with fever, he said. District Collector Navin Mittal said efforts made to control mosquitoes by the district administration and the municipal corporation for the past 12 months had paid off. There was a 60 per cent decrease in the number of malaria cases this April to September compared to the corresponding period last year. This was achieved by merging the district malaria department with the malaria division of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. Large-scale anti-larva operations were taken up with the help of special malaria incidence maps, Mr. Mittal said. He said blood banks in Krishna district were equipped with the machines that could separate blood platelets that were needed for the treatment of hemorrhagic dengue.
