HYDERABAD: If your school-going child loves to drive down for studies on a two-wheeler, it is time you apply brakes to his passion for wheels. The Traffic Police have decided to initiate stern action against under-aged school children going to school on bikes. Apart from imposing penalties, vehicles would be seized on the spot from next week, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) A. K. Khan told reporters here on Tuesday. Mr. Khan said cases against 183 school children, including 29 girls, were booked over the last three days at Hyderabad Public School in Begumpet and St. Ann's High School in Secunderabad. He said Rs.500 penalty was collected from students. After counselling them, vehicles were handed over to their parents.
Surprise checks
"Hereafter, we will conduct surprise checks at least one day in a week at 10 schools," Mr. Khan cautioned. He stated school managements should come out with necessary steps to prevent children from driving motorcycles. A special enforcement drive would be launched from next week at women's colleges in the city. He explained 280 cases were registered against girls for driving without a headgear.
