KOCHI : The Kerala State Pollution Control Board (PCB) has issued closure notice to the public sector Hindustan Insecticides Ltd (HIL) at Eloor for the pesticide contamination reported at Kuzhikandam creek on October 14. Sample tests done by the environment surveillance centre of the board at Eloor found that presence of DDT and Endosulfan in the creek was beyond the permissible limit. Tests conducted by the board officials found that presence of these chemicals was 15 to 20 times above the permissible limit. The heavy presence of pesticides like DDT and Endosulfan in water samples proved that the effluent discharge was from HIL.
