50 pressure mine shells seized

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: The city police on Tuesday seized 50 pressure mine shells from the `lost property' wing of Kranthi Road Transport Private Limited, located on the outskirts of the city. The pressure mine is said to be the sophisticated version of landmine, being used by the Maoists to target the police. The police suspected that the pressure mine shells were made in Nellore and intended to be sent to Nallamala forest through the transport company. The device, which resembled a tiffin box, made up of aluminium and iron could be stuffed with any explosive like ammonium nitrate or RDX and could be ignited instantly with the help of a detonator.
