HYDERABAD: A local court here on Tuesday held a youngster Mayank Bohra guilty in the sensational murder of industrialist Dulichand Surana reported nearly five years ago. Announcement of the prison term, however, was postponed to Wednesday following a petition filed by the prosecution seeking death sentence to Bohra. The 29-year-old youngster remained calm as the judgement was announced while his widow mother Pushpa sitting in the court hall was apparently upset. Khurminlal Doungel, charged with supplying a firearm to his friend Bohra, was acquitted.
Capital punishment
Meanwhile, Special Public Prosecutor P. Satyamurthy requested the court to postpone pronouncing quantum of the sentence. Describing it as a rare case, the prosecutor said it was a fit case to award capital punishment to the guilty person. The judge said the sentence would be announced on Wednesday.A resident of Marredpally, Bohra was charged with kidnapping Surana, 53, and his wife Manju, 48, at gunpoint near Begumpet on the night of December 31, 2001. He took them to a secluded place at Mahendra Hills and fled after stabbing them indiscriminately. While Surana died on the spot, locals later rescued his wife by rushing her to hospital.
