Man jumps to death in West Delhi
The tragedy unfolded around 12-45 a.m. when Deepak Sharma, a resident of Gandhi Nagar in East Delhi, jumped from the fourth floor of Lifestyle mall. He died on the spot. Enquiries by the police revealed that his family wanted him to get married but he was not interested and had been returning late from his job of late. The police said Deepak worked as a laboratory assistant in a Noida firm at a salary of about Rs.4,000. In his suicide note, he purportedly wrote to his parents and elder brother that he was sorry he was ending his life.
Six bonded
labourers rescued
The Police Control Room received a call around 1 p.m. about a case of bonded labour. Subsequently a PCR team reached the factory premises and rescued six boys, aged between nine and 14 years of age. The factor owner, Arshad, was handed over to the local police for action under the Juvenile Justice Act.
Fake currency seized, four held
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Delhi) Robin Hibu, the police received a tip-off that two persons would come near a restaurant at Punjabi Bagh to hand over a consignment of fake notes to their accomplices on October 14. Subsequently some policemen in plain clothes laid a trap and arrested the two suspects, from whom they recovered counterfeit notes. During interrogation, the accused identified themselves as Aman Jindal and Sunny Dewan. They allegedly revealed that they had been printing the notes, with the help of their accomplices at Sampla in neighbouring Haryana. At their instance, the police mounted a raid and arrested their accomplices, Arun Kumar Mittal and Sushil Verma.
Two arrested in cricket betting racket
The accused, Sumit Juneja and Bhawan Narang, were arrested when they were allegedly receiving calls from their clients. A laptop, a television, an automatic call-recorder and a register containing details of the stake amounts were seized from them. According to the police, the accused had accepted stake money of about Rs. 25 lakhs from their clients.
