This Day That Age
The historic Golden Temple of Amritsar will wear a new look shortly when the present golden sheets fixed on copper domes and other parts of the building are replaced by new sheets. Swami Keshawaanand, MP, inaugurated on October 17 the work by replacing the first golden sheet. The original gold work was done by Maharaja Ranjit Singh 125 years ago. The renewal work, undertaken by the Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee, supreme religious body of the Sikhs, would require 10,000 tolas of gold and would cost in all Rs. 10 lakhs.
