High Court admits students' plea

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday admitted a petition by several students of ICSE and CBSE schools seeking a direction to the State to permit them to participate in the selection trials of games for the School Games Federation of India (SGFI).

The parents of the students said they had challenged a single-judge order dismissing their petition seeking a direction to the State to allow ICSE and CBSE students to participate in the school games being held by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI). The appellants said that on October 10, 2006 a single judge dismissed petitions by 28 students of ICSE and CBSE syllabus challenging their exclusion from the sports meet organised by the DPI.

The students had challenged the July 10, 2006 decision of the State not to permit them to participate in the selection trials.
