NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday told the Governing Body of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) that any action taken by it against AIIMS Director P. Venugopal, including the termination of his service, would be subject to its decision on the pending petition concerning his continuation on the post. Justice P. Anil Kumar of the High Court passed this direction on an application by Dr. Venugopal seeking a stay on the meeting of the Governing Body, which met later in the day. However, the Court refused to stay the scheduled meeting of the Governing Body. Dr. Venugopal filed the application last week following the decision of Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare and president of AIIMS Anbumani Ramadoss to convene the Governing Body. In his application, Dr. Venugopal submitted that he had an apprehension that the Governing Body had been convened to terminate him from the service as no agenda had been distributed among the members of the Body. In the above-mentioned petition, Dr. Venugopal had sought quashing of the Governing Body's recommendation to the Union Government to terminate his service on the ground of misconduct. There is a stay by the High Court on the Governing Body's recommendation. The Governing Body had on July 5 recommended the termination of the service of Dr. Venugopal.
