Sprint-double for Alameen, sets a new mark in 100m

Madurai: M. Alameen of MSS Wakfboard College, Madurai, who had won the 200m gold earlier in men's section, won the 100m gold with a new meet record for a sprint-double in the three-day Madurai Kamaraj University inter-collegiate athletic meet, which concluded at Madurai Police Centenary Stadium here on Wednesday.

Yadava keeps

team crown

Yadava College, Madurai, retained the men's team championship with a total of 66 points and the Annabathi Shield while M.S.S. Wakfboard College finished second with 56 points. Lady Doak College retained the women's team championship with a total of 58 points and the Mother Anonciate Shield Trophy. V.V.V. College finished second with 43 points.

Women: 400m: 1. S. Venkateswari (MSSWB) 1:05 s, 2. R. Devi (LDC), 3. L. Vasuki (VVV); 5000m: 1. C. Rajeswari (VVV) 23:58 s, 2. T. Priya (Rama Praba Devi), 3. N. Deepa (MSSWB); Triple jump: 1. C. Hema Mala (SFRC) 9.15 m, 2. A. Jeyalakshmi (VVV), 3. A. Mahalakshmi (LDC).

Individual Champion: S. Silambarasi (LDC) and S. Venkateswari (MSSWB) 15 points each.

Semifinalists spotted

Host Thiagarajar College of Engineering, along with Tagore Engineering College, Chennai, Government College of Engineering, Salem and V.L.B. Janakiammal College of Engineering, Coimbatore entered the semifinals of the Anna University inter-zone men's kho-kho tournament at Madurai on Wednesday.

The results (Quarterfinals): Tagore Engg.College, Chennai bt College of Engg., Guindy 15-13; TCE , Madurai bt Jerusalem C.E, Chennai 31-16; Govt. College of Engg., Salem bt Mahendra Engg. College, Namakkal 23-15; V.L.P. Janakiammal College of Engg., Coimbatore bt St. Joseph's College of Engg., Chennai 19-16.

K.R. College in last four

At Kovilpatti, K.R. College of Arts and Science entered the semifinals of the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University inter-collegiate table tennis tournament defeating VOC College, Tuticorin 3-2 on Wednesday.

Other results (Quarterfinals): Muslim Arts College, Marthandam bt Adithanar College of Arts and Science, Tiruchendur 3-0; G.V.N. College Kovilpatti bt MDT Hindu College, Tirunelveli 3-0.
