Bangalore, Calicut win titles
CHIDAMBARAM:
Bangalore and Calicut won the men's and women's titles respectively in the South zone inter-university badminton tournament here. In the finals on Wednesday, Bangalore defeated Anna 3-1, while Calicut blanked Acharya Nagarjuna 2-0.
The results:
Men: Final: Bangalore bt Anna 3-1 (Amar bt Vijayanand 21-8, 21-10; Sharhank Achari bt Prakash 21-14, 21-14; Shashank Shastri & Palghum lost to Aloysis Vijay and Vijayanand 12-21, 16-21; Mohit Kamat bt Aloysis Vijay 21-11, 21-19).
Third place: Acharya Nagarjuna bt Annamalai 3-2.
Women: Final: Calicut bt Acharya Nagarjuna 2-0 (Merit George bt Joshna 21-17, 21-11; Merit George and Sruthi bt Sowmya and Ashwini Chowdary 21-16, 24-22).
Third place: Osmania bt VIT (Belgaum) 2-0. — Sports Reporter
