SHO suspended

Jammu: A Station House Officer (SHO) in Doda district was suspended on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in black marketing of Kerosene and Diesel.

During a surprise raid by Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Doda-Udhampur range, L K Mohanty in Banihal belt of Doda, where diesel and kerosene were sold in black market on Tuesday, 700 litres of the fuels were seized and three shops were sealed.

Initial investigation led police to the involvement of SHO Banihal police station, Abdul Wahid Giri in the oil scam case, Mr. Mohanty told PTI.

``We have placed SHO, Banihal police station under suspension, and set up a special team to investigate selling of diesel and kerosene in black markets along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway,'' he said.

Ex-Armyman shot

Sonepat: A former Armyman was shot dead and his brother injured by a group of people in Katwal village in this district purportedly over a property dispute, police said.

Attar Singh 45, and his brother Pradeep were shot at by a group of people following which Singh died.

Pradeep, 33, a havildar in the 25 battallion of Rajputana Rifles had come to his village for Diwali. He was rushed to a hospital in Rohtak for treatment, they said.

A case has been registered against six persons, including Chatar Singh, Gram Sachiv of Gohana Panchayat Samiti, in this connection.

An old enmity over the plot is stated to be the main cause of the murder, police said adding a hunt has been launched to apprehend the culprits, who are still at large.

UKD activists held

DEHRA DUN: Eleven Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) activists were arrested and security around the Virasat festival venue was strengthened after they climbed up the stage and tried to obstruct the ongoing cultural programme on Tuesday evening.

Raising slogans against the organisers and the State Government for having "insulted" the noted folk singer Narender Singh Negi by first inviting him to perform and then refusing to even recognise him when he arrived, the UKD activists threatened to force closure of the festival if local artistes were insulted. The audience also joined the activists in the sloganeering.

Officer's services offered to Centre

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has placed the services of Sanjay Kothari, IAS, at the disposal of the Union Government for appointment as Additional Director-General of Tourism (Joint Secretary level) with immediate effect.
